Writing? You can walk around and go back to the place where you started. Sometimes you can see the coastline and you never take your eyes of it, not even for a moment. Sometimes the line disapire. Characters? Some of them fade away as a scetch, protein without potential. Some of them stays. At the same time they want something and they doesn't want enything. Just that.
