The landfill in Szadółki is a monstrous spoil heap. Refuse lorries arrive here to fill it with yet another tons of rubbish. The air is filled with dust clouds. Birds are wheeling above in the search for food. Several years ago there were also people, collectors raking trough the rubbish. The wind is really heavy here. The heap is high. It provides a good point of observation over Gdańsk. A fascinating pile composed of multicoloured elements, which, only a while ago, had their purpose. Armchairs, sofas, books, dishes, quilts and food leftovers are big enough to be noticed among the rubbish. All the objects gathered here have lost their initial status and have turned into remnants. The mixture of rubbish and soil make patchy grey. This is the dominant colour of the landfill in Szadółki. The process resembles mixing of coulours on the palette. From within the mounted pile emerges a vivid accent. This intense blue represents plastic rubbish bags. The enormous heap built up from waste resembles an art installation. It has a specific size and shape. It contains everything interesting for a painter: sophisticated mixture of greys highlighted with vivid accents of blue. This domineering colour of rubbish bags, in its function is similar to Edward Krasiński’s blue stripe or ultramarine used by Yves Klein.
