Side event to the exhibition What do you do in bed? by Sophie Thun and Joanna Woś
Date: 13.07.2024, 6 PM
Place: Gdansk City Gallery 1, Piwna 27/29
For one Saturday evening, the Gdańsk City Gallery (GGM1) will transform into a cosy place for reading aloud. On July 13, in the pillow-lined gallery interior, Maja Demska will be suggesting the best books to read in bed. Join us anytime between 6.00 PM and 8.00 PM.
Maja’s poetic diagram will be a side event to the exhibition What do you doing in bed? presented at the gallery on Piwna Street until September 1, 2024. In this way, the art of Sophie Thun and Joanna Woś will serve not only as a setting for the reading session, but also as a literary point of reference:
“I have chosen texts that are related to the artworks presented at the exhibition. Some of these texts had inspired our artists, others are thematically or geographically related to their work,” says Maja Demska. Among the authors are Chantal Akerman, Djuna Barnes, Kathy Acker and Ingeborg Bachmann.
You will listen to excerpts from their prose and poetry while lying on the pillows and sipping herbal infusions. Perhaps you will read your own suggestions for bedtime stories? You can also focus on solving Maja’s unique quizzes and psychological tests – her diagram accompanying the exhibition is a quiz in itself.
Suggested dress code? Pyjamas.
Should I bring anything? A favourite blanket and pillow will come in handy. As an option, you can also bring an excerpt from a book to read.
Please note that due to the nature of the presented content, the event is intended for adults only (18+).
