Adrianna Majdzińska’s sculptures on display at the 4G Gallery reflect on the value of time, „fleetingness” of reality, whose events and phenomena are measured with ever shorter intervals and where quickness is prioritised in spite of its costs. Majdzińska is a Tri-city well established artist, consistently working in natural materials, such as wood and metal, reaching also for ceramics and concrete. Not infrequently will she use unwanted objects assmbled in her works into compositions of riveting interest, like the one employing kitchen knives. Her solo exhibition at the Gdańsk City Gallery displays both her previous works form „Nuncjusz” [„Nuncio”] and „Perswazje” [„Persuasions”] cycles and also new accomplishments: „Puklerze” [„Bucklers”] and „Natural Killer”. The artist draws inspiration from different sources: far from limiting herself to her individual experience, she refers to cultural codes, broadly understood. Natural materials chosen for her works seem to be juxtaposed with their keynote, deeply rooted in culture, by which she manages to enhance their inapparent meaning. „My sculptures cannot exist without a subject matter. Having created so many of them over the years, this has turned out to be the crucial element. Working with an idea and searching for an appropriate form for it. Then, slowly narrowing down the field of research by rejecting unnecessary redundancies until the well-fitting shape – the one capable of encapsuling the complete content – emerges. Nevertheless, such maturated perception of form has crystalized over a long period of time.”
The exhibition of Ada Majdzińska’s works belongs to the Logos-Bios cycle gathering those sculptors who analyse and juxtapose the notions of culture and nature, the domain of chaos represented by biology and that of logos identified with order, human intervention or even symbolic oppression.
