It was lyrics that also inspired the two Noble Prize winners: Wis\u0142awa Szyborska and Herta M\u00fcller to create the exceptional collages, that are going to be displayed at the G\u00fcnter Grass\u2019 City Gallery.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>PRACOWNIA in Piwnica pod Baranami (Krak\u00f3w) was the first host to showcase the cut-outs by Wis\u0142awa Szymborska in February 2013. \u00a0It was one of the events commemorating the first anniversary of\u00a0 her death. In 2013 the exhibition travelled to Rome, Madrid, Nurnberg, K\u00f3rnik and Makau. In 2014 it will be shown in Krak\u00f3w, Sofia, Budapest, on Sardinia and in Gda\u0144sk. The display of Herta M\u00fcller\u2019s collages, which have so far only been known from their printed versions, will provide the first chance to see them in Poland.<\/p>\n<p><\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-37e585e elementor-widget-divider--view-line elementor-widget elementor-widget-divider\" data-id=\"37e585e\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"divider.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-divider\">\n\t\t\t<span class=\"elementor-divider-separator\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-dd2a0a9 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"dd2a0a9\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-e-type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p>RELATED EVENTS:<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Krystyna Sta\u0144ko with a band<\/strong> \u2013 a concert inspired mainly by the album \u201eKrople s\u0142owa\u201d \/ \u201eDrops of words\u201d published in 2012, which was \u2013 in the author\u2019s own words \u2013 a tribute paid to poets. The CD includes, among the other things, several pieces composed to the poetry of Wis\u0142awa Szymborska.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Natalia Grzeba\u0142a in concert<\/strong> \u2013 drawing from her own CD \u201cPi\u00f3rko\u201d \/ \u201cFeather\u201d with pieces inspired by the young poet from Gda\u0144sk \u2013 Barbara Pi\u00f3rkowska;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Poetry evening<\/strong> \u2013 women poets and actresses will deliver performative readings of their own poetry as well as pieces by Wis\u0142awa Szymborska and Herta M\u00fcller. Featuring: Barbara Pi\u00f3rkowska, Ewa Mi\u0142ek, Magdalena Ga\u0142kowska, Ewelina Jasicka, Iwona Prusko and Monika Milewska;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Films<\/strong>: &#8222;Chwilami \u017cycie bywa zno\u015bne&#8221;\/ \u201eLife only happens to be bearable\u201d a documentary on Wis\u0142awa Szymborska by Katarzyna Kolenda-Zaleska and a documentary by Angelika Kellhammer on Herta M\u00fcller;<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Symposium on the literary Nobel Prize winners\/ master dialogue: Wis\u0142awa Szymborska, <\/strong><strong>Herta <\/strong><strong>M\u00fcller and <\/strong><strong>G<\/strong><strong>\u00fc<\/strong><strong>nter Grass <\/strong>\u2013 talks around the works of the authors and various inextricable contexts in which they came into being. She was also a translator and author of amusing columns about books, a collector of old postcards, a lover of literary games, an author of collages and a mastermind of famous raffles, that abounded in peculiar oddities. She lived in Krak\u00f3w since 1931. Between 1945 and 1948 she studied Polish philology and sociology at the Jagiellonian University. In March 1945 she debuted with the poem <em>Szukam s\u0142owa \/ Looking for a Word<\/em> published in a supplement to the \u00a0daily paper \u201cDziennik Polski\u201d. Between 1953 and 1981 she was on the staff of the Krak\u00f3w-based weekly \u201e\u017bycie Literackie\u201d \/\u201dLiterary Life\u201d where she ran the poetry department and her own column <em>Lektury nadobowi\u0105zkowe\/Non-compulsory reading<\/em>; a collection of these essays has seen several \u00a0republications in book form.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p>Szymborska published 13 volumes of poetry: <em>That\u2019s Why We Are Alive <\/em>(1952),<em> Questioning Yourself\u00a0 <\/em>(1954),<em> Calling Out to Yeti <\/em>(1957), <em>Salt\u00a0 <\/em>(1962), <em>No End of Fun <\/em>(1967), <em>Could Have <\/em>(1972),<em> A Large Number (<\/em>1976),<em> People on the Bridge <\/em>(1986), <em>The End and the Beginning <\/em>(1993, 1996),<em> Moment <\/em>(2002),<em> Colon <\/em>(2005),<em> Here <\/em>(2009) and a posthumous, unfinished volume<em> Enough <\/em>(2012). Szymborska also translated foreign poetry \u2013 mostly French and German \u2013 into Polish.<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><em>Collages are obviously pieces of art. They are also\u00a0 Wis\u0142awa Szymborska\u2019s signature. It\u2019s worth focusing on their crucial meaning, though: they are a trace of friendship and a call to it. <\/em><\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: right;\">Prof. Leonard Neuger<\/p>\n<p>\u00a0<\/p>\n<p><strong>Herta M\u00fcller<\/strong> (1953 &#8211; ) was born in the German-speaking village of Ni\u021bchidorf in Romania. Between 1973 and 1976 she studied German and Romanian philology in Timisoara. Her first book <em>Niederungen\/ Nadirs<\/em> was kept unpublished for 4 years before finally being issued in a radically modified form in 1982. In 1984 the book was published in Germany and after that Herta M\u00fcller was forbidden to publish in Romania and fell prey to constant questioning and threats from the Romanian secret police Securitate. In 1987 she moved to Germany and worked as a visiting professor at Universities in the UK, the USA, Germany and Switzerland. Her international recognition is confirmed by numerous translations into foreign languages, prizes and honours \u2013 with the Nobel Prize and the Gro\u00dfes Verdienstkreuz of the German Federal Republic in 2010 being the most prominent ones.
