Metaphysical Seeker<\/p>

Dead birds were thought to foretell the death of someone in the house<\/em><\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

This sentence bears reference to folk sayings and traditions of conveying stories, while at the same time it shifts us to the territory of the past, to a magic place where interpretation becomes of key importance. The saying refers to an ill omen \u2013 the death of a loved one.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

Time reveals yet another act \u2013 it smoothly takes us on a journey through a long corridor and a room illuminated with strong light. As we accompany the camera, both the external and internal space becomes perceptible. Unicoloured and devastated by time, the place of the corridor immersed in murk situates us in a transitional zone. From a dark passage the image shifts us to an area of brightness. The eye of the camera positions itself in a luminous interior. Pulled down, the roller blinds still allow rays of light inside; a decorative transparent material that slightly descends on the windowsill evokes a phantom presence.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

The images are accompanied by a song-lullaby. A hypnotic female voice recites and sings in Polish and English, enfolding us and at the same time taking us to a different dimension. The layers of sound overlap, thus building a tension between two languages.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

It seems that the voice plays the role of a self-translator. The piece is seductive, the steady rhythm and melody bring back to live the memories of sinless time.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

O, Little Bird is a poetic story about every one of us, embedded by the author between the past and the future. It is a tracker that takes position in the shadow, finds isolation from noise, and at the same time sharpens the vision, which offers the possibility to notice more.<\/p>

\u00a0<\/p>

The exhibition addresses the sphere of human feelings and subconsciousness, it is embedded in a space in which remote moments become merged by the language of dreams. Hryniuk brings words to life and clothes them, she grasps the viewer\u2019s body beyond the verbal level of perception. The question of time, which the artist addresses in her work, will become developed in the space of the exhibition.<\/p>

Marta Hryniuk\u2019s solo exhibition O, Little Bird is an award from the Gda\u0144sk City Gallery in the competition Best Diplomas 2016, organised by the Academy of Fine Arts in Gda\u0144sk.<\/p>

Marta Hryniuk (b. 1991 in Warsaw)<\/strong><\/p>

Visual artist who operates mainly in the sphere of video and painting. The artist takes interest in the condition of the contemporary image, investigates and performs memory, seeks non-linear manners of telling stories. Hryniuk studied painting at the University of the Arts in Pozna\u0144 and multimedia at the Art Academy of Szczecin. She is currently a student at the Piet Zwart Institute in Rotterdam. Co-founder of the nomadic artistic-curatorial collective Silverado. Alongside Silverado, Hryniuk created the projects: \u201cSpooky Action at a Distance\u201d at Realny Obszar Dzia\u0142a\u0144 in Warsaw, \u201cField of Game\u201d at the Szczecin Philharmonic, \u201cChorus\u201d at Alt_Cph in Copenhagen, \u201cModern Art Desserts\u201d at the Supermarket Art Fair in Stockholm, 2015, \u201cReal Time Controller vol. II\u201d at the Zach\u0119ta Project Room in Warsaw and \u201cAn Exhibition as a Different State of Mind\u201d at 1a collective in Pozna\u0144, among other initiatives. Holder of the \u201cYoung Poland\u201d scholarship (2017) and the scholarship of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage (2015), finalist of Startpoint Prize (2016).<\/p>
